For every amazing salon makeover we’ve had, there’s been a story of a makeover of a totally different kind – the salon disaster. Has this ever happened to you? Toni Jackson, Owner of Alexander Myles Salon and Spa and MIZANI Educator, offered some important advice when dealing with disastrous salon experience.

1. The first thing to do is to try to remain calm.  When a hairstyle, haircut or color goes awry, speak directly to the manager or salon owner about your concerns. It is a good idea to give the salon an opportunity to rectify the wrong doing.

2. It’s good to note that in many cases, hair salon boo-boos can be fixed. Hairstylists have many tricks up their sleeves to correct almost any ”salon disaster.” The salon owner or manager may even recommend that you see a more experienced and seasoned stylist in the salon who can better service your needs.

3. To avoid a hair fiasco in the future, choose a stylist whose work you have actually seen and that best represents your style.  It is a common practice, in the salon, to ask for a consultation first before making a salon appointment. If you decide to go that route, go prepared to your consultation with pictures of what you like as well as pictures of what you don’t like. Prepare a list of questions for your stylist that covers all of your hair care concerns. In some cases, it may take even a fabulous stylist a few appointments to get a true sense of your personal style.
