The perfect haircut on the wrong face shape can ruin a girl’s day (or next few weeks) faster than a bad date. In the excitement of getting your hair done… Should I go blonde this time? Short? Stay long? It’s easy to get swept away by all of the options. But, one detail we should never forget is face shape. Today we are going to talk about the long or oblong face shape and what styles work best for this face shape.

Eye Grazing Bangs and Long Layers

Bangs that graze the top of the eye are the most flattering for oblong face shapes as they draw focus to and enhance the eye area. Combine with long layers that create volume just below the cheek bones to create an illusion of fullness around the jaw line.

Eye Grazing Bangs and Long Layers

How to Style:

1. Apply volumizing mousse to roots and mid lengths.

2. Dry using a medium sized round brush.

3. Vertically wrap hair around a large barreled curling iron, curling hair away from the face and starting curls no higher than the cheekbones.

4. Gently break up curls with fingers.

5. Set with a flexible hold hairspray.

Product Recommendation:

Try Onesta’s Volumizing mousse. It provides volume and light hold without feeling crunchy or sticky.

Best Face Shapes & Hair Types:

This is truly a universal hairstyle that would look good on any face shape and hair texture. However, I especially recommend this style for face shapes that need more strength in the jawline; heart and oblong shapes.

Styling Tip:

For salon perfect bangs, blow dry from side to side (think windshield wiper moments) using a paddle brush for smoothness and the perfect amount of bend on the ends.

Make Me Timeless

A classic! This side swept long layered hairstyle creates volume at the crown and fullness through the sides, drawing attention the eyes and cheekbones. The volume at the crown and fullness through the sides creates a fuller more rounded face shape.

Timeless Long Layered Brunette Style

How to Style:

1. Apply styling product to wet hair.

2. Blow dry with medium sized round brush.

3. Apply product for definition to the ends.

4. Set with a light layer of flexible hairspray.

Recommended Products:

Onesta’s Smooth & Shine provides a good foundation for smoothness while blow drying. Apply on dry hair for texture.

Styling Tip:

Round brushing your own hair is hard work! Enlist the help of velcro rollers to add volume and bounce.

Best Face Shapes & Hair Types:

This style works best on oblong, square and diamond face shapes. It works best with medium to thick hair density.

Make Me Move!

Paired with full side bangs, this updated version of the long bob is filled with movement and body. This look is perfect for those who want sexy short layers without sacrificing length. With lots of volume through the sides and just below the crown, this style adds fullness to cheek bones.

How To Style:

1. Apply volumizing foam to roots.

2. Blow dry using fingers, pulling hair closest to the neck straight down. Use fingers to flip out layers below the cheekbone.

3. Use medium barreled curling iron to flip out ends and curl ends under.

4. Apply pomade or wax to the tips.

Recommended Products:

Try Onesta’s Play Paste. It provides definition and shine without feeling heavy.

Best Face Shapes and Hair Textures:

This style works on all face shapes and hair densities. Just have your stylist alter it to your face shape, hair texture, hair density and styling capabilities.

Modern Glamour

A style perfect for an evening out, a work event, or party. This style is old Hollywood glamour with a modern twist.

How to Style:

1. Apply styling crème to wet hair.

2. Blow dry with paddle brush to create smoothness

3. On the side where your part is, curl hair away from your face using a 1”curling iron vertically and taking sections from your part to the top of the ear. Work all the way around to the back of head, curling hair away from your face. Do not break up curls, allow to hair to cool while curling the other side.

4. On the side opposite of your part, curl hair towards your face beginning the curls at eyebrow level. Again, do not break up the curls, allow them to cool.

5. Once you’ve curled the front (all the hair in front of your ear), move the curling iron down to begin curls at the top of the ear. Continue curls around the back of head to meet up with the other side.

6. Once curls have cooled, gently break them up using your fingers. On the side of your part, use fingers to create smooth waves.

7. Apply a light layer of flexible hold hairspray.

Recommended Products:

Onesta’s Create It Hairspray provides flexible and long lasting hold.

Styling Tip:

For oblong face shapes, begin curls at the top of ears to create width and fullness through the cheekbones.

Best Face Shapes and Hair Textures:

This is a style that can be done on any hair type and texture.

Prim and Proper

This is a great style for those growing out a pixie or short haircut. Beat growing pains with style and shape while highlighting cheekbones and creating a fuller face shape.

4. Alternate directions of curls in the back.

5. Use fingers to gently break up curls.

6. Apply medium hold hairspray.

Product Recommendation

Simply Organic Volume Spray adds great lift to roots without feeling sticky or heavy. Just remember, a little goes a long way!

To achieve the perfect side swept fringe, blow dry in the opposite direction of how you would like them to lay. Allow the hair to cool, move to the other side and apply a light mist of hairspray to the pieces closest to your part. This will keep them in place all day and evening.

Face Shape and Hair Density:

This style will work well with all face shapes and hair densities.

Perfect Pixie

This feminine pixie is perfect for women with longer face shapes who enjoy short hair! Face Shapes and Hair Textures:

This style works well on all face shapes except heart face shapes and looks best on those with thicker hair densities.

Sleek Bob

One of the most flattering flattering styles for longer face shapes is the long bob. This sleek version hits just above the collar bone providing fullness through the sides and jawline.

Face Shape and Hair Density:

A true classic, this style works on thin to medium density hair types (thicker hair needs more layering) and all face shapes.

Ask your stylist to razor the layers around your face. The razor creates soft face framing layers around the face with lots of texture.
