“If this year’s Olympic games didn’t prove that female athletes are seriously stepping up their game in the hair department, we don’t know what else will! Forget the sleek ponytail (sorry Sporty Spice, we know that’s your go-to): here are three chic hairdos, courtesy of celebrity stylist and founder of Prive Salon and products Laurent Dufourg, every athlete can totally rock on and off the field.
A DOUBLE-BRAIDED PONY

Braids are great for athletes because they keep the hair out of your face, allowing you to focus all of your attention on the game, notes Dufourg. “One look in particular I love is combining two braids into one ponytail.”
Step 1: First, take two sections of towel-dried hair, and work them into a ponytail that sits on the top of your head.
Step 2: Next, braid each section and tie off the ends separately with an elastic band.
Step 3: Once you’re finished, intertwine the two braids together into one big, chunky braided ponytail.
This look is not only fun, but keeps your hair very secure thanks to all the support from the elastics. For those with flyaways, Laurent recommends using a strong hairspray, such as Prive’s Firm Hold Hair Spray, to ensure your ‘do is bulletproof!
A FIERCE BALLERINA BUN

“High, tightly secured ballerina buns are perfect for athletes. Like the double-braided pony, they’re easy to achieve and keep your hair high up and out of the way,” says Dufourg.
Step 1: To get a sporty ballerina bun for the field, first pull back damp (or dry) hair into a high, tight ponytail.
Step 2: Next, twirl and wrap your ponytail into a tight circle around the base to form a bun.
Step 3: Secure any loose ends with bobby pins as needed, and apply hair spray for extra support.
A SHORT BOB

According to Dufourg, women who have a short bob are already way ahead of the game when it comes to easy maintenance!
Step 1: If you have a bob, blow dry your hair super straight using a heat-protectant spray, such as Prive’s Thermal Protection Detangling Spray, and style accordingly.
Step 2: For extra pizzazz, accessorize with a fun, sporty looking sweatband or headband, which will also help prevent sweaty strands from flopping in your face.
