I’m not going to lie. I’ve been an avid Gossip Girl fan since its 2007 debut and I shed a few tears during this week’s much anticipated finale. (Note: I acknowledge it was a cheesy conclusion, but I love warm and fuzzy endings just as much as I do cliffhangers!)
Really, how could anyone resist the show’s absolutely ridiculous plot lines, centered upon the Upper East Side’s most elite and wealthy inhabitants? From scheming Blair Waldorf to naive Serena, brooding Chuck Bass to Lonely Boy outsider Dan Humphrey, the show provided a few characters for everyone to both love and hate.
Gossip Girl (who was revealed in the finale), put it perfectly: “The Upper East Side was like something from Fitzgerald or Thackeray – teenagers acting like adults, adults acting like teenagers, guarding secrets, spreading gossip all with the trappings of truly opulent wealth.”
Anyway, whether you were a fan or not, there’s one fact you cannot deny: the styling and hair on that show always wowed. As a tribute to the show, I’ve curated four Gossip Girl inspired hairdo’s for you to recreate at home.
Lily Bass BunLily Bass is known for her regal disposition. And even though she tends to comes off slightly cold, the woman always looks like she’s about to walk into the most important meeting of her life. Abby of Twist Me Pretty created a knotted, sleek bun a la Lily (pictured). Check out her video tutorial below.
Quintessential Gossip Girl WavesGossip Girl did some fabulous updos, but one of the most popular hairstyles on set was loose, tousled, carefree waves a la Brigitte Bardot. Birchbox partnered with Jennifer Johnson, head of the hair department at Gossip Girl, and Alice Callaghan, who plays one of Blair’s minions on the show, to create an easy tutorial for the classic GG look. Add a headband to this and poof! you’ll look like Blair Waldorf.
Jenny Humphrey’s Messy LocksWe watched Jenny Humphrey go from a sweet, innocent girl to a rocked-out chick who never went a day without at least half a stick of eyeliner. True to Gossip Girl form, her hair was always enviable. Check out YouTube User ahanhbarbie34‘s Messy Wavy hair tutorial inspired by little Jenny herself.
Gossip Girl Fishtail BraidBobby Glam recently did a tutorial on a GG inspired look, as well: the fishtail halfsie hairstyle. It’s super easy to re-create and can be worn with either completely straight or wavy/curly hair. Check out her video tutorial here.
