“Whether thick or thin, ultra curly or straight as a pin, all hair is subject to frizz. That’s right — the hair gods do not discriminate when it comes to managing our coiffures. That’s precisely why there are a plethora of smoothing milks, creams, lotions and hair serums stuffed onto the shelves of every salon, department, beauty and drug store across the world. We all strive for tamed, pretty and healthy-looking locks. The question is: what products do the trick?
As both a beauty blogger whose job is to test products every day — and as a woman whose default hair type is unruly — I’m here to break it down for you. Below are three highlighted hair serums in different price categories (low, mid and high end) along with additional suggestions. May you march onward in confidence and with amazing hair billowing in the wind.
Low End - Our #1 choice: Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Hair Serum, $5.99If you’re in a bind or on a strict budget, Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Hair Serum is definitely the way to go. This anti-frizz serum has been a long time favorite and you honestly can’t beat the price. The scent is fruity-meets-salon and the texture is silky with a bit of weight. It’s especially great for curly hair or super thick hair that’s prone to frizzing out. It weighs hair down just enough to keep it smooth, but doesn’t feel really cumbersome.
Other low end serums worth mentioning:
Citre Shine Color Prism Anti Frizz Serum, $3.99
John Frieda Frizz Ease Original Hair Serum, $8.99
Neutrogena Triple Moisture Healing Shine Serum, $6.99
Ideal for a host of hair types, this amazing-smelling hair serum is a winner all around. It’s a little thicker than the Garnier or Alfaparf and is especially great for post blow drying/straightening (when hair is at its fluffiest, in comparison to day 3 hair that’s already weighed down by natural oils). You just need a few drops of this product to make hair look shiny, smooth and frizz-free.
Other mid end serums worth mentioning:
Victoria’s Secret So Sexy Smoothing Shine Serum, $14
Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum, $16
TIGI Bed Head Headrush, $18
This Alfaparf Miano hair serum receives rave review after rave review. The scent is almost cologne-like and a little goes a very long way. It works well for a variety of hair textures and works to soften, smooth and illuminate locks without weighing it down. Never greasy and never too heavy feeling — you’ll feel like you just walked out of a salon after using this one.
Other high end serums worth mentioning:
Pravana Perfection Shine Serum, $26
Blowlux Daily Shine and Repair Serum with Argan Oil, $29.95
Jonathan Product Create Smooth Anti-Frizz Volumizing Serum, $26
