Sometimes, it’s just something simple that can take your hairstyle from “meh” to “wow!” I know for me personally, some of these little tricks were discovered by accident while others have become rules to live by. Next time you’re in the middle of a hair crisis or are simply in need of a little pick-me-up, try one of these three tricks to take you and your hair from from panic mode to wow mode STAT.
1. A Little TeaseI can’t tell you how much a little tease can often go a long way! Adding some extra oomph to your hairstyle is one of the quickest ways to take a drab and dying ‘do into va-va-voom territory. To get the look, take a fine toothed comb and backcomb around the crown of your head. Remember to smooth out your hair over the teased area so you don’t end up with the rat’s nest effect. Finish with some strong hold hairspray and your hairstyle will look freshly revived! A little tease looks great with down hairstyles and some half up half down hairstyles, too. You can even tease your ponytail for a sassy spin on this timeless look.
2. A Hair AccessoryWhen it comes to fashion, sometimes the finishing touch your outfit needs is simply a belt. When it comes to hair, the equivalent of a belt is a fabulous hair accessory, like a headband! A beautifully embellished, floral or even simple headband can work wonders for taming OMG hair into “wow she looks so put together” hair. Plus, it takes virtually no time to style! Next time you feel like your updo or down hairstyle needs a little something, reach for a hair accessory for that extra touch of glam.
3. A Messy UpdoWe all get into hairstyle funks (we even have some tips on how to get out of that hairstyle funk here), but sometimes just toying with your hair this way and that way is when the unexpected inspiration comes in. I’m convinced that’s just how the messy updo was born — when schoolgirls everywhere bored in class started toying with pencils in their hair. Now as adults, the messy updo is still a favorite for its casual yet sexy style. To do your own twist, try a playful chignon and leave a few strands around your face loose. Or, flash back to the past and twist your hair up with a pair of chopsticks. When my hair just doesn’t want to do anything (aka an ‘OMG I give up’ hair moment), the messy updo is my go-to option. Take a look at our Messy Hair is Marvelous Hair board on Pinterest for even more messy inspiration.
